As the Chairman of NTDC 2026 National Organizing Committee, Heath Arnold is greatly appreciative of all the work that has been done by the committee, the volunteers, ATA staff and everyone involved in the preparation for this year’s National Truck Driving and National Step Van Driving Championships that begin in Pittsburgh on August 11th. While Heath also knows that he’ll be front and center for most of the ceremonies related to NTDC 2026, he tells us in this episode of the podcast that the spotlight should always be focused on the 429 State Champions who will be gathering in Pittsburgh.
Over the course of the conversation, Heath reflects on the work of the Organizing Committee and the volunteers. He celebrates what the Nationals mean to the competitors and their families. We also discuss the institutional knowledge that is being passed from experienced competitors and even retirees to those professional drivers making their first trips to the NTDCs, creating a level of camaraderie that helps to keep the program growing.
Looking back at the storied history of the National Championships, Heath takes a moment to highlight the invaluable contributions that Rick Cates has made to the NTDC program and the trucking industry over the past five decades. Rick will be stepping back from his role as a National Committee member following the conclusion of NTDC 2026.
